LIFE SKETCH OF GEORGE WESTWOOD
A brief history of George Westwood-requested to write for the D.U.P. of the Huntington Camp.
I was born in the year of 1853, June 30th in Elbu Vale, Monmouthshire, Wales. My father
is William Westwood and my mothers name is Elizabeth Griffiths. My mother was born in
Radnershire, Wales. My father was born in Worstershire, England. I was baptized into the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the year of 1875 on the 26th day of April.
I was confirmed on the 29th April. I came to Utah on the 23rd day of July to Fountain
Green, Sanpete County, Utah. In September I went to work on the Manti Temple.
On my way down to Manti, where the road goes up to Moroni and one goes to Mt. Pleasant,
an old Indian met me and drawed a gun on me and tried to rob me but I had no money so
he didn't get anything so that was pretty good of him. I went onto Manti and worked on
the Temple a few weeks and then went to Beaver City. I worked there for about two years
and in the year of 1879 I went to San Juan County. I was out there about two years then
I came back to Fountain Green and was married to Sarah Ellen Rowbury in the Endowment
House on December 22, 1881 and lived in Fountain Green. My wife had twelve children.
Seven grew to man and woman.
Sarah Ellen Westwood was born in Katee Hill, Dudley Worcestershire, England, in the year
of 1863 March 16th. We moved to Winter Quarters, Scofield in 1882. Then in 1884 we
moved to Huntington, Emery County, Utah and lived there ever since. In the year of
1890 I went two years on a mission to England. He died at his home on the farm, December
3, 1939. He was buried in the Huntington Cemetery.
